Making The Most Out of Your Doctor Visit October 23, 2017 | ryan At CCOM Medical Group, our entire staff is dedicated to helping protect and preserve the health of our patients. Our primary care and specialty physicians have a broad range of knowledge and experience in treating a variety of conditions, and our office clinicians are certified with the latest technological training. All of this combines to ensure you receive the quality care you need, but as a patient, you also play a critical role in your treatment and recovery. The following are suggestions to help you make the most of your visit, along with a few lifestyle tips you may want to consider implementing as well. Preparing for Your Visit Taking an active role in your medical care can go a long way in ensuring you receive the proper diagnosis and treatment. When preparing to visit your doctor, whether for routine care or for a specific injury or illness, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommends doing the following: Make a list of your primary concerns. Jot dot any symptoms you have or questions you want to ask the doctor and bring them up early in your visit. Bring along any relevant information. Make note of any prescription or over the counter medications you are taking, as well as any testing or treatments you have received from other providers. Also, include insurance cards and the phone number of your pharmacists when visiting our office for the first time. Bring a support person. Some patients like to bring a family member or friend to their visit to remind them of important concerns or to help them remember the doctor’s instructions. Speak out about special needs. If you have problems with mobility or with your hearing and vision, let our staff know and we will be happy to accommodate you. Do not be afraid to ask questions about your condition, as we want you to be as informed as possible about your health. If you have concerns or experience any side effects after treatment or while taking a new medication, let our office know right away. Actions You Can Take at Home While we work hard on our end to address your health concerns, there are actions you can take at home to supplement your treatment. Consumer Reports recommends making some of following lifestyle changes: Switch to whole grain cereal, bread, and crackers; Add more vegetables to your diet; Limit your sun exposure; Get more exercise; Get plenty of sleep; Find ways to eliminate stress.
